A manuscript version of Ephraim Newton's history of Marlborough, Vermont. The town history was published by the Vermont Historical Society in 1930. The collection also includes Clement's introduction to the manuscript, a letter to the Vermont Historical Society from John Clement about the history of the manuscript, and a leather manuscript case with the title printed in gold on the front.

John P. Clement (1893-1968)was born in Rutland, Vt., the son of Henry W. and Agnes O'Neall Clement. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1911, and Yale in 1915. A captain in the American Expeditionary Force, he served in France during World War I. He then became a partner in the Dunster House Bookstore in Cambridge, Mass. until returning to Vermont and becoming involved in the movement to repeal prohibition.
